History
The Association was founded in Zagreb in 1946, immediately after the 2nd World War, as the first of its kind in the then newly established Yugoslav Federation. The first name of the Association was "The Association of the Employees and Associates of Museums, Galleries and Conservation Institutes Museion in Peoples Republic of Croatia". From the very beginning the Association established its branches and sections. The initiative to publish the journal of the Association was set in motion in 1948, and four years later, in April 1952, the first issue of "The News of Museum Workers and Conservators of Croatia" was published.
In the year 1959 the Association separated into the Association of Conservators of Croatia and the Museum Association of the P.R. of Croatia, but the journal has kept the conservators in its title till this day. In 1960 the Association was named Museum Association of Croatia, and in 1975 it registered under the name of the Union of Museum Associations of Croatia. In the period between 1991 and 1997 (the period of gaining independence and the war) the Association was only sporadically active and ceased to publish its journal. The first issue of "The News" was published again in 1997, after the pause of 6 years. The Association renewed its activities in 1996, adopted the new Statute and registered officially again in 1998 in the Register of Associations at the Ministry of Administration under the name of Croatian Museum Association.
